Vicente B. Alcera, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and educator, joined his Creator on November 29, 2008 in Houston, Texas, U.S.A. with family by his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Sia Alcera, his six children and their spouses, fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Jun and Linda, their son Kiko; Ricky and Margaret, their son John and daughter Sharon; Diana and Chrys, their son Andy and daughter Ledian; Joy and Arnold Nazario, their son Jason and daughter Angel; Florabelle and Alvin Samson, their sons Delvic and Nathan and daughters Tara, Alexis and Hannah; and Gil Anthony and Glo and their daughter Princess and sons Vincent and Charles; and great grandchildren Phoenix, Kyle and AJ.
Vic, as he is fondly called by friends, through his able leadership transformed the modest fishery high school in 1956, the Southern Mindanao School of Fisheries (SMSF) to a collegiate status and was re-named the Mindanao Regional School of Fisheries (MRSF) and to a state college in 1986 to what is now the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology.
